Andrea Galvani

Four Works

JULY 28TH 2011, 7-10 PM OPENING RECEPTION

APERTURE FOUNDATION
547 WEST 27TH STREET
4TH FLOOR, NEW YORK, NY
Aperture Foundation is pleased to present a solo exhibition of work by artist Andrea Galvani, winner of the 2010 Exposure Prize. Curated by Nora Lawrence, Four Works shows both the breadth of the artist’s work in the last five years and the consistency of his research. Cerebral, austere, and visually sharp, Galvani's images present singular moments in time that invite the viewer to enter rich, seductive and allusive visual universes. Two of the images selected for this exhibition are being shown for the first time in the United States.

Andrea Galvani was born in Italy and lives in New York City. He has been a visiting artist at NYU (2010) and has completed the following artist residencies: MIA Artist Space, Trinity Project/Columbia University Department of Fine Arts (2010), LMCC Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2009), Location One International Artist Residency Program (2008). His work has been exhibited internationally, including at The Whitney Museum, Central Utah Art Center, Mart Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Trento, Macro Museum in Rome, GAMeC in Bergamo, Flemish Arts Center De Brakke Grond, and Oslo Plads. Selected publications include: Flash Art, ArtForum, Artnet, Tema Celeste, Modern Painters, Art Papers, Art Info, Around Photography, Herald Tribune, Boiler magazine, Arte Critica and Zoom Magazine. In 2011, Andrea Galvani was nominated for the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Prize and invited to participate in the fourth Moscow Biennial
