Following the official acceptance by the Artistic Committee of the 55th Venice Biennale presided by Massimiliano
Gioni, the curators Francesco Elisei, Fabio Anselmi and Marco KayOne Mantovani are proud to present the event that
undoubtedly will be remembered as the most important official exhibition and event happening in Italian Graffiti
Writing and Street Art . The project called Back to Back at the Biennale-Free Expression, intends to organise an event
that officially takes to the Venice Biennale for the first time a selection based on merit, representing the world of
Graffiti Writing and Street Art all over Italy.
Contemporary Art from the post-war period up until today, has theorized and explained that there are different and
so many ways to express oneself. The Writers and Street Artists represent a phenomenal art movement which starts
from a deeply urbanized society where the suburbs are considered as ghettos and where urbanism is seen as a big
palette on which to express their own interpretation of reality. The project Back to Back at the Biennale is somehow
a collective and generational event, and is characterized by the performances of 26 artists and will run from June to
December, without curatorial or thematic filters, the expression is free, as the subtitle reads, and by an exhibition in
the prestigious rooms of CA Bonvicini with over 40 artists and their Post-Graffiti and Street Art works.
