The Pavilion of the Republic of Belarus presents the project «Kodex» the main idea of
which is a modern interpretation of text design. This is a general composition,
arranged by means of bulk plastics, tonal and color graphics, media arts.
The idea of Prof. Mikhail Barazna (the curator of the Pavilion) was realized by
Belarusian artists Yury Alisevich, Artur Klinau, Kanstantsin Kastsiuchenka, Viktar
Piatrou, Dzianis Skvartsou. The project «Kodex» represents all aspects of modern
Belarusian art development. Preserving and developing national art school
Belarusian art is aiming at international integration in the field of progressive
phenomena of modern culture.
Every artist had an opportunity to develop his own idea within the frames of the
general curator's concept. As a result a synthetical composition with the consideration
of art traditions was created.
The works created by Yury Alisevich are a kind of pre-sample graphics, graphic
foundation of all composition. Y.Alisevich reflects all details of everyday life not
distinguishing them by their importance. Large and small details are equal for him.
His images are filled with expressive psychology, lightness and metaphorical plastic
language. Widescale vision of the general composition structure, distinct drawing of
thin lines are characteristic features of his creativity.
The creativity of Viktar Piatrou, the founder of the festival performance movement in
Belarus, is a synthesis of actionism and manual and digital painting. The artist
explores the life circumstances creatively, creates his own space and time. He is
interested in life, and he is able to share this interest with his viewer. V.Piatrou presents
the graphic design of his own text and a number of performances.
Volumetric and spatial expression is typical for Belarusian art. The sculptures of
Kanstantsin Kastsiuchenka reflect the influence of srtong aspects of Belarusian
graphic art on spatial thinking. Balance and harmony are essential features of his
works.
Irony accented by traditional materials and classical motives is
peculiar to the volumetric structures of the architect, artist and writer
Artur Klinau. He remakes creatively well-known and indicative
monuments by adding to them absolutely new features.
The work of film producer and graphic artist Dzianis Skvartsou
closes the design process of modern colored text with modern
means. His visual texts don't need to be translated into another
language. Movement and expression of his frames are close to the
graphic arts and painting.
«Kodex» project as a whole can be regarded as a graphic one, but it is filled with modern
graphics, body movement, sound, bulk plastics, and light. The works of Belarusian artists
show their willingness to experiment in contemporary art.
For better perception of the project «Kodex» consecutive assessment of presented works is
of extremely importance. A certain sense guide in the form of the route of exposure is
offered to explore the works of artists in the pavilion. The speed and rhythm of movement is
determined by the audience.
World of ideas embodied in the «Kodex» and its authors invite you to share the pleasure of
reading the art of modern texts with them.
