Programmed to overlap with the 55th edition of the Venice Art Biennale’s, If A DandeLION Could Talk features a large spectrum of artworks, video works and documentary materials of sigma 1, a historic group active in the communist climate of the 1970s Romania, as well as individual works by its members Ștefan Bertalan, Constantin Flondor and Doru Tulcan. The exhibition singles out one important aspect of the practice of this group that is the creation of a new systems of thought based on our multifaceted relationship with nature.
The show includes drawings, installations, video works, documentary materials, as well as a site-specific installation, Metafora pentru o Papadie (Metaphor for a Dandelion) (1975-2013), specifically reconstructed within the space of the Gervasuti Foundation.
sigma 1, was a historic artist group, active in Timisoara, Romania starting with 1969 until 1978. It was composed by ?tefan Bertalan, Constantin Flondor, Doru Tulcan, and for a short period also by the mathematician Lucian Codreanu, Ioan Gaita and Elisei Rusu. The art practice of sigma 1 is based on the interrelationships of different artistic media and disciplines, science and social practices in the given social conjuncture. An important aspect of their practice is the development of a new experimental pedagogic system influenced by the Bauhaus model and based on an anthropological program.
