VISUAL ARTS | LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA 2013 : COLLATERAL EVENTS

Wales in Venice

Bedwyr Williams

The Starry Messenger

55th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia
Collateral Events

Wales’s official representation as a Collateral Event at the Venice Biennale 2013 features artist Bedwyr Williams at the Wales Pavilion in the Santa Maria Ausiliatrice: the Ludoteca in Castello.

Established in 1895 the Venice Biennale (La Biennale di Venezia) is the oldest, and remains the most important and prestigious event on the international contemporary visual arts calendar. Every two years Venice becomes the world stage with the attention of the world’s visual arts community and media focused on Venice over a six-month period.

The Venice Biennale provides Welsh artists with a key international platform exposing them to critical international coverage, new audiences, markets and contexts.

The exhibition from Wales at the 55th International Art Exhibition is supported by Arts Council of Wales and its grant in aid from the Welsh Government.

Bedwyr Williams, in a project jointly curated by MOSTYN and Oriel Davies and supported by the Arts Council of Wales, is the artist to represent Wales at the 55th International Art Exhibition.

He will present The Starry Messenger at the Ludoteca Santa Maria Ausiliatrice, Venice, which will explore the relationships between stargazing and the home, the cosmos, and the role of the amateur in a professional world.

The exhibition dates for the 55th International Art Exhibition are 1 June to 24 November 2013.
