L'anima della Pietra (1995-2009)

Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, Palazzo Loredan, San Marco 2495 (Campo Santo Stefano)

from June 3 to July 31 and from September 1 to October 20

Venetian artist Fabrizio Plessi creates a video-installation that reinterprets the nineteenth-century busts in the "Panteon Veneto": an example of hybridisation between history and the contemporary era. Plessi explores Michelangelo's theory that the raw material contains the finished work in its core. A creative journey sustained by the intuition, creative power and profound passion of this artist.

La Città Ideale
Certosa Island
from June 6 to November 22
Venice is a theatre open to the human comedy which has now fulfilled Le Corbusier's concept of “museum of unlimited growth”. This goal was the inspiration for the exhibition which has created its own “new world” on the Certosa Island, where one can admire a glass wall by Shan Shan Sheng reminiscent of the Great Wall of China. Or the minimalist work by Vinicio Momoli, along with a ring 6 meters in diameter made out of resin by Belgian artist Koen Vanmechelen, a reference to the cyclical nature of existence.

Library

Fondazione Gervasuti, Via Garibaldi, Castello 994 (Fondamenta Sant'Anna)

from June 7 to November 22

The installation of the Korean artist Woojung Chun presents an imagined library with bookshelves, desks and other familiar devices - recognisable as symbols of secured and organised knowledge. Where seemingly all knowledge resides, the artist reveals the image of a library as a place of persistent search for elusive questions: unsolved theories, unexplained narratives and unresolved philosophical debates.

No Reflections

Port of arts

Chiesa di Santa Marta, Porto di Venezia

from June 4  to September 27

In this critical moment for peace in the Mediterranean, the Port of Venice offers itself as a meeting point. This event, curated by Luciano Caramel, arises from two convergent opportunities: the recent restoration of a 13th century church and the opportunity to point out that Venice does not fall into the stereotype of a “display window” but rather remains an enduring centre of artistic creativity worthy of its great tradition.
