Eric Fischl
How I Paint what I Paint
Eric Fischl will talk about his creative process and how he constructs visual narratives. Fischl is an internationally acclaimed American painter and sculptor, based on the East End, and is considered one of the most important figurative artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Susanne Neubauer
Harald Szeemann: Theater, Methodology, Gesamtkunstwerk
This lecture will highlight some of Harald Szeemann's most provoking exhibitions and his curatorial development. Another aspect will be Thek's and Szeemann's collaboration which started at the set of Robert Wilson's Deafman Glance in Paris in June 1971 where both first met. Supported by Pro Helvetia.

Prof. Mark G. Raizen
Maxwell, Einstein, and Their Impossibilities
In 1871, James Clerk Maxwell proposed a thought experiment, and in 1907, Albert Einstein made a prediction. Both men concluded that the experimental realizations would be impossible. In this talk Prof. Raizen will describe his recent work that challenged this historical conclusion and has enabled new methods for controlling matter with light. Raizen is the Sid W. Richardson Foundation Regents Chair Professor at The University of Texas at Austin.

A Lecture in Three Parts, Which Picture Feels the Most Pain
This lecture will use a variety of media to illustrate and diagram some of the central concerns of Matt Mullican's practice. Matt Mullican (b. 1951, Santa Monica, CA) has created a complex body of work concerned with systems of knowledge, meaning, language, and signification. Mullican is at Watermill to participate in the Insights Into Consciousness Workshop.

Alvin Baltrop
Alvin Baltrop : Selected Works
Alvin Baltrop produced some of the most powerful photographs taken on the Island of Manhattan. His photographs are both voyeuristic and intimately composed portraits of friends, lovers, and strangers - many of them commingling at the Hudson river piers in the 1970s and 80s.
Official opening to be held on August 14 from 3 - 6 pm during Discover Watermill.

Ben Schmidt
As We Turn in Fluctuating Circles
This exhibition includes six framed works titled: portal / universe / measurement / patterns / the missing link / prophesy - all exploring that the world is constanly in flux. In his work, Schmidt distills a mythological and archetypal archive of devices inherent to humankind into an essential context. Schmidt is a Watermill alumna artist.
