Inside/Outside
The Brazil Pavilion in Venice, will adopt a "constellatory" structure, a procedure the curator also employed at the 30th Bienal.
Anchoring the exhibition are the artists Hélio Fervenza (Sant'Ana do Livramento, 1963) and Odires Mlászho (Mandirituba, 1960), who were invited to produce work especially for the show.As Pérez-Oramas points out: «Both artists have produced dense oeuvres, sustained by a systematic application of formal intelligence, and their works, both complex and rich, deserve a more studied reception by many contemporary critics. Their art, which is little known outside Brazil, will certainly be a revelation to the international public».In addition to the commissioned pieces, both Fervenza and Mlászho have frequently experimented with the formal and existential implications of the "Möbius strip" - the structure studied by August Ferdinand Möbius in 1858, and formed by gluing together the opposing ends of a twisted band.
Enacting an archeology of Brazilian art symbolically centered upon the Möbius strip, the curator intends to devise a historical constellation of works that dialogue with those of the selected artists.
